But the true beauty starts when you walk under the gate. The gate is painted from top to bottom, creating a magnificent rainbow walkway with murals depicting Jaipur and Rajasthan.
Passing through the gate, you’ll encounter nine archways adorned with intricate designs inspired by Rajasthani culture. These archways showcase prominent attractions of Jaipur, including the iconic Jal Mahal, alongside vibrant artwork. The meticulous decoration is truly mesmerizing, and you’ll be captivated by every intricate detail.
Before I arrived at the gate, I was curious why it was called one of the most Instagrammable places in Jaipur. However, I immediately realized why when I stepped foot into the archways. Resulting in Pooja and I spending over an hour clicking photos of the beautiful gate!

The Patrika Gate, although inspired by the seven original heritage gates that provided entry to Jaipur’s walled city, is a relatively new attraction. Serving as Jaipur’s ninth gate, it was named after the news company in India, Patrika. The gate was constructed in 2016 and officially opened to the public in 2017.
In 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this gate through a video conference, acknowledging Kulish Ji from the Patrika Media Company for his significant contribution to Indian journalism. The Patrika Gate was constructed by the Patrika group of Newspapers and is located on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg in Jaipur.
The gate was designed by a Jaipur-based architect named Anoop Barataria. He also designed the famous World Trade Park in Jaipur (one of the best places for shopping in Jaipur!) The architecture of the gate pays homage to Rajasthani history and culture.
It symbolizes the integration of Rajasthan’s art, craft, and cultural legacy into one structure. The construction of the Patrika Gate is part of the Mission Anupam Yojana initiated by the Jaipur Development Authority to bring together the state’s artistic and cultural heritage on the bustling Jawaharlal Nehru Marg. Additionally, there is multiple levels of the gate with windows throughout the structure, as well as two distinct and beautiful doors on the inner parts of the gate.

Flanking the facade are exquisite sculptures depicting elephants, horses, and soldiers, symbolizing the valor associated with the princely states of Rajasthan. Battles and wars, integral to the history of Rajput states, find representation in these elements.

They are so beautiful that I have included the Gate on my famous palaces and forts in Jaipur you must visit line up (even though its neither!!) I added it tot he list because I can’t get enough of this place. With each pillar and column narrating scenes from various state regions, offering glimpses into its rich architectural and cultural heritage. Buses, in particular, offer frequent services throughout Jaipur, with some routes conveniently stopping at the Patrika Gate. The journey to the gate can range from 15 to 20 minutes from the main tourist portion of the city (Hawa Mahal area), depending on traffic conditions. Additionally, the Jaipur airport is a mere 5-minute drive from the Patrika gate for those arriving by air.
In terms of distance, the Patrika Gate is approximately 10 km (30 minutes) away from the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur and 13 km (40 minutes) away from the Jaipur railway station.
What to know before visiting the Patrika Gate:
Patrika Gate is one of the most famous gates in Jaipur and possibly all of India. This means countless people flood the area throughout the day to take photos, exercise, and relax in the park’s beauty. So if you want to get some good pictures with empty archways, you’ll have to visit early in the morning.
We visited the gate at around 7 am, and it was empty, except for the two couples taking wedding photos. I strongly recommend getting to the gate as early as possible to avoid the crowds, as around 8 am, it was already getting crowded, and we had to wait a while to get the perfect shot.
That being said, we also visited the gate around dusk, and although it was completely packed with locals, the entire gate was lit up. The lights give the gate a different look, and it has its own charm. So, if possible, try to check out the gate in the morning and evening to get the best variety of shots!
If you go during the evening, you can also catch the water light show at the huge circular fountain! The show starts right after sunset – 7:30 – 8:00 pm. More about the park and the fountain below!

- Is the park safe: Yes, the park is safe, and there are usually a lot of people around. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend visiting the park too late in the night or some of the less-lit and visited portions of the park.

The best time to take photos of Patrika Gate is 7-8 am. The gate is usually empty at this time, and you can take pictures of the archways with no one in them.
While it’s possible to patiently wait for your turn and capture a clean and impressive photo at any time of the day, I would highly recommend the early morning as the ideal time for photography at the Patrika Gate. By arriving early, you can save time and avoid the need for excessive patience, ensuring a smoother experience in capturing your desired shot.
Seven in the morning (or earlier) is the best time to go to the gate. A lot of people go to the Jahawar Circle Park for jogging, exercising, and doing yoga.
So be ready for them to walk through the gate unexpectedly. Also, around 8 am, a large rollerblading class began in front of the gate. It didn’t cause any trouble for us taking photos, just a lot more people hanging around. So, even if you arrive early there may be other events going on around the area.
Another favorable option for those seeking to avoid crowds is to plan a visit to India during the offseason, particularly around the Monsoon season. The number of tourists decreases significantly from July to September, providing a more tranquil experience. Conversely, it’s important to note that the winter season, spanning from October to February, is the busiest period to visit Rajasthan. To navigate the increased influx of visitors during this time, it’s advisable to arrive early in the day to make the most of your visit.

Patrika Gate is the entrance to Jawahar Circle Park, Asia’s largest circular park. Although the gate attracts visitors and tourists from afar, the park also has plenty to offer. With plenty of space and trees to keep you cool during the day, it is a great place to go for walks and enjoy your surroundings.
Jawahar Circle Park is in the middle of a traffic circle, but you can’t even hear the traffic and cars zipping outside. Making it a peaceful destination. The park also has a water show that JDA puts on around dusk (typically between 7-8 pm depending on the season.)
We stopped by to check out the show, which lasted a little longer than 30 mins. It started with some Hindi songs from YouTube being played before the water and lights show began. The water show is a little underwhelming, as it seems outdated, and the music, water, and lights don’t match up well. That being said, we still enjoyed cooling off around the fountain and watching the show.
Finally, the park has a playground, a workout area, areas for yoga, a rose garden, and plenty of room to relax! If you have time while visiting the Patrika Gate in Jaipur, then make sure to take a stroll around the park as well. It is a great place to relax and spend an evening walking around!

Patrika Gate is a mesmerizing and beautiful place to visit. Painted from top to bottom with scenes from around Rajasthan, you will be instantly captivated by the craftsmanship of the gate.
Although located away from the main tourist attractions of the Pink City, I think it is worth visiting in the morning to get some of the best pictures to show off to your friends. Another great way to visit Patrika Gate is on your way to or from the airport, less than five kilometers away.
I personally loved the Patrika Gate and the Jawahar Circle Park for evening walks and a little peace and quiet. So if you have extra time during your stay in Jaipur, check the park and gate out! And even spend an evening watching the water show and basking in the gate as it’s lit up at night.
